Licensing Hours over the Extra Bank Holiday to mark the Queens Funeral

Many licencees have the benefit on a nonstandard timings relating to Bank Holidays, which extends the hours of operation. These are used for our traditional Bank Holiday dates of Easter, early and late May, August and around Christmas and New Year.

However, dependant on the wording of the grant recited on each licence it may apply to this extra Bank Holiday weekend to mark the Queens Funeral.

We appreciate that the extra Bank Holiday is not one filled with joy unlike the Bank Holiday we all benefitted from earlier in the year to celebrate the Jubilee but should premises wish to remain open later on the days of the weekend leading up to the day of the funeral of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II they should check their licences to see if such provision exists.

The appropriate wording to look for on the licence would be along the lines of:

'To extend the hours of operating until 02.00 on Friday Saturday Sunday and Monday at Bank Holiday weekends.'

Or similar – we are happy to advise on any specific queries

Law correct at the date of publication.
